THE BOOKS/SCROLLS
OF HEAVEN
Book: Hebrew, cepher = missive,
document, writing, book, scroll
Book or scroll: Greek, biblion = a
small book, a scroll, a written document
Have you ever wondered just what books
or scrolls are kept in heaven? This is a fun little study to discover what books
are kept in heaven and what is recorded in those books or scrolls.
1.
The Book of the Living (A book of the lives of humans)
a.
Psalm 139
i. [Psa
139:16 NLT] 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
b.
Jer1:5
i. [Jer
1:5 NLT] 5 "I knew
you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I
set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations."
c.
Rom 8:29
i. [Rom
8:29 NLT] 29 For God knew
his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that
his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
d.
Eph 2:10
i. [Rom
8:29 NLT] 29 For God knew
his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his
Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
e.
Eph 1:4-5
i. [Eph
1:4-5 NLT] 4 Even before
he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without
fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own
family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted
to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
f.
Rev 3:12
i. [Rev
2:17 NLT] 17 "Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and
understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I
will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a
white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one
understands except the one who receives it.
The Book of the
Living records the details of the life of each living person before they were
even formed in the womb. The events of each and every day, and the destiny of
each person is recorded in the Book of the lives of Human Beings.
God knew in
advance those that would make Jesus their Lord and Savior. God knew the Son’s
Bride even before they were born. And to these sons and daughters of God, the
Bride of Christ, in the end, He gives a new name descriptive of who they were
always destined to be.
2.
The Book of Tears
a.
Psalm 56:8

recorded each one in your book.
b.
Psalm 34:18
i. [Psa
34:17-20 NLT] 17 The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their
troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose
spirits are crushed. 19 The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD
comes to the rescue each time. 20 For the LORD protects the bones of the
righteous; not one of them is broken!2 Kings 20
c.
[2Ki 20:5 NLT] 5 "Go back to Hezekiah, the
leader of my people. Tell him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor
David, says: I have heard
your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from
now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the LORD.
The Book of Tears records the
pain of broken hearts and crushed spirits. God watches over His children. He
knows their pain and sorrows and moves with compassion, comforting, protecting,
healing, rescuing them from trouble, and providing for His own.
3.
The Book of Remembrance
Remembrance, Hebrew - zikrôwn;
from H2142; a memento (or memorable thing, day or
writing):—memorial, record.
a.
Mal 3:16-18
i. [Mal
3:16-18 NLT] 16 Then those who feared the LORD spoke with each other, and the
LORD listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names
of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name.
17 "They will be my people," says the LORD of Heaven's Armies.
"On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure.
I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child. 18 Then you will again
see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who
serve God and those who do not." Acts
10:1-4
ii. [Act
10:1-4 NLT] 1 In Caesarea there lived a Roman army officer named Cornelius, who
was a captain of the Italian Regiment. 2 He was a devout, God-fearing man, as was
everyone in his household. He gave generously to the poor and prayed regularly
to God. 3 One afternoon about three o'clock, he had a vision in which he saw an
angel of God coming toward him. "Cornelius!" the angel said. 4
Cornelius stared at him in terror. "What is it, sir?" he asked the
angel. And the angel replied, "Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as
an offering!
The Book or scroll of Remembrance
records the names of those that fear God, honor His name, honor God with their
tithes and offerings, and are consistent in prayer and devotional life. This
book records the memorable things done for others in the name of the Lord to
bring Him honor and glory. God sees and records our private and public devotion
to Him.

20:12-13 NLT] 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God's
throne. And the books were

as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up its dead, and death and the
grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds.
b.
1 Cor 3:13-15
i. [1Co
3:13-15 NLT] 13 But on the
judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done.
The fire will show if a person's work has any value. 14 If the work survives,
that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the
builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone
barely escaping through a wall of flames.
c.
Matt 6

6:1 NLT] 1 "Watch out! Don't do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by
others, for you will lose
the reward from your Father in heaven.
This book
records the works or deeds of people. At the great white throne judgment, the
dead are judged by their works. This book also addresses the rewards of the
believer. There are records in heaven of people's deeds and works, both good
and evil, that are done during one’s life on the earth.

written in the book will be rescued.
f.

i. [Rev
20:11-12, 15 NLT] 11 And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it.
The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I
saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God's throne. And the books were opened,
including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what
they had done, as recorded in the books. ... 15 And anyone whose name was not
found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.
k.
Rev 21:27
i. [Rev
21:27 NLT] 27 Nothing evil
will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and
dishonesty--but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
The Book of Life
(The Lamb’s Book of Life) is a record of all people who have made Jesus the
Lord and Savior of their life. These have acknowledged and repented of their
sins and trusted Jesus for their salvation. This book is the Book of the
Righteous. Those whose names are written in this book will be rescued from the
day of wrath and trouble that is to come upon the earth in the last days.
Unrepentant sinners’ names will be erased from the Book of Life. It will be
those whose names are not written in the Book of Life that will worship the
Beast in the last days. Only those whose names are written in the Book of Life
will ever enter into the New Jerusalem.

The Great Seven Sealed Scroll of the Last Days
a.
[Rev 5:1-3 NLT] 1 Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one who
was sitting on the throne. There was writing on the inside and the
outside of the scroll, and it was sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a strong
angel, who shouted with a loud voice: "Who is worthy to break the seals on
this scroll and open it?" 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the
earth was able to open the scroll and read it.
The revelation of the events of the
last days before the Lord returns to earth are recorded in this scroll. There
are seven seals that must be broken before the scroll is unrolled. The seventh
seal releases seven angels with trumpets. These trumpet blasts release the judgments
of God (His wrath) upon the earth and its inhabitants. The seventh trumpet
blast releases seven more angels with bowls of God’s wrath. With these bowls,
the wrath of God is finished and the Lord returns to the earth as King of
kings, and Lord of lords.

The Sweet and Sour Scroll of the Last Prophecies
given to John
[Rev 10:1-2, 8-11 NLT] 1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from
heaven, surrounded by a cloud, with a rainbow over his head. His face shone
like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire. 2 And in his hand was a small scroll that had been
opened. He stood with his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the
land. ... 8 Then the voice from heaven spoke to me again: "Go and take the open scroll from the hand
of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land." 9 So I went to
the angel and told him to give me the small scroll. "Yes, take it and eat
it," he said. "It will be sweet as honey in your mouth, but it will
turn sour in your stomach!" 10 So I took the small scroll from the
hand of the angel, and I ate it! It was sweet in my mouth, but when I swallowed
it, it turned sour in my stomach. 11 Then I was told, "You must prophesy again about many peoples,
nations, languages, and kings."
The things recorded in this scroll are both
good news and bad news (sweet and sour). These things are prophecies about the
very last days that were to be proclaimed to the entire world, all the people
of the earth. These revelations of God’s purposes are both bitter and sweet.
They show God’s mercy and well as His judgment. The events on the earth just
before the Lord’s return are indeed very “bitter”. They are God’s judgment and
His wrath. But these bitter events lead to the return of the King, Jesus, and
the establishment of His Kingdom on the earth. Good news indeed!
