What does scripture tell us about the days just before the coming of Messiah in His second coming; the last days, the end of days, the latter days, the end of the age, and the day of the Lord?

Scriptures for; the Last Days, the End of Days, the Latter Days, the End of the Age, and The Day of the Lord.

The Last Days ('aḥărîṯ yôm)

[Gen 49:1 NKJV] And Jacob called his sons and said, "Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days (at the end of days):

Prophecies regarding what God will do with the tribes of Israel in the future. This is the first conscious prophecy spoken by a man in the Bible.

Reuben shall not excel.

Simeon and Levi: I will…scatter them in Israel.

Judah: The scepter shall not depart from Judah.

Zebulun: A haven for ships.

Issachar: A strong donkey.

Dan: A serpent by the way.

Gad: He shall triumph at last.

Asher: He shall yield royal dainties.

Naphtali: He gives goodly words.

Joseph: A fruitful bough.

Benjamin: a ravenous wolf.

Some of the things mentioned regarding these tribes may seem a bit cloudy, but only because we may not know exactly their fulfillment until the age to come.

[Act 2:17 NKJV] 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.

 

 

[2Ti 3:1 NKJV] But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:

[Heb 1:2 NKJV] has in these last days spoken to us by [His] Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

[Jas 5:3 NKJV] Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.

[2Pe 3:3 NKJV] knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,

The End of Days ('aḥărîṯ yôm)

[Num 24:14 DBY] And now behold, I go to my people: come, I will admonish thee what this people will do to thy people at the end of days.

[Deu 4:30 DBY] In thy tribulation, and when all these things shall come upon thee, at the end of days, thou shalt return to Jehovah thy God, and shalt hearken to his voice,

[Deu 31:29 DBY] For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and will turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and mischief will befall you at the end of days; because ye do evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.

[Isa 2:2 DBY] And it shall come to pass in the end of days, [that] the mountain of Jehovah's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow unto it.

[Eze 38:16 DBY] And thou shalt come up against my people Israel as a cloud to cover the land -- it shall be at the end of days -- and I will bring thee against my land, that the nations may know me, when I shall be hallowed in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

[Dan 2:28 DBY] but there is a God in the heavens, who revealeth secrets, and maketh known to king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be at the end of days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed are these:

[Mic 4:1 DBY] But it shall come to pass in the end of days [that] the mountain of Jehovah's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and the peoples shall flow unto it.

Latter Days ('aḥărîṯ yôm)

[Num 24:14 ESV] And now, behold, I am going to my people. Come, I will let you know what this people will do to your people in the latter days."

[Deu 4:30 ESV] When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the LORD your God and obey his voice.

[Job 8:7 ESV] And though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great.

[Job 42:12 ESV] And the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

[Isa 2:2 ESV] It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it,

[Jer 23:20 ESV] The anger of the LORD will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intents of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it clearly.

[Jer 30:24 ESV] The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intentions of his mind. In the latter days you will understand this.

[Jer 48:47 ESV] Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in the latter days, declares the LORD." Thus far is the judgment on Moab.

[Jer 49:39 ESV] "But in the latter days I will restore the fortunes of Elam, declares the LORD."

[Eze 38:16 ESV] You will come up against my people Israel, like a cloud covering the land. In the latter days I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when through you, O Gog, I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.

[Dan 2:28 ESV] but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head as you lay in bed are these:

[Dan 10:14 ESV] and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come."

[Hos 3:5 ESV] Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the LORD and to his goodness in the latter days.

[Mic 4:1 ESV] It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it,

The End of the Age  (synteleia ho aiōn)

[Mat 13:39 ESV] and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.

[Mat 13:40 ESV] Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.

[Mat 13:49 ESV] So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous

[Mat 24:3 ESV] As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"

[Mat 28:20 ESV] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

The Day of the Lord (yôm Yᵊhōvâ) (hēmera kyrios)

[Isa 13:6 ESV] Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; as destruction from the Almighty it will come!

[Isa 13:9 ESV] Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it.

[Jer 46:10 ESV] That day is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, to avenge himself on his foes. The sword shall devour and be sated and drink its fill of their blood. For the Lord GOD of hosts holds a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

[Eze 13:5 ESV] You have not gone up into the breaches, or built up a wall for the house of Israel, that it might stand in battle in the day of the LORD.

[Eze 30:3 ESV] For the day is near, the day of the LORD is near; it will be a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.

[Joe 1:15 ESV] Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.

[Joe 2:1 ESV] Blow a trumpet in Zion; sound an alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming; it is near,

[Joe 2:11 ESV] The LORD utters his voice before his army, for his camp is exceedingly great; he who executes his word is powerful. For the day of the LORD is great and very awesome; who can endure it?

[Joe 3:14 ESV] Multitudes, multitudes, in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

[Amo 5:18 ESV] Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! Why would you have the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light,

[Amo 5:20 ESV] Is not the day of the LORD darkness, and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?

[Oba 1:15 ESV] For the day of the LORD is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your deeds shall return on your own head.

[Zep 1:7 ESV] Be silent before the Lord GOD! For the day of the LORD is near; the LORD has prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests.

[Zep 1:14 ESV] The great day of the LORD is near, near and hastening fast; the sound of the day of the LORD is bitter; the mighty man cries aloud there.

[Act 2:20 ESV] the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.

[1Co 5:5 ESV] you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

[1Th 5:2 ESV] For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

[2Th 2:2 ESV] not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

[2Pe 3:10 ESV] But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
